The play follows the dynamic journey of two amazing women; The royal queens of the Tudor/ Stewart dynasties .
Elizabeth 1st and Mary Queen of Scots.
It is a play of passion and treachery and one where we can witness the collision course, which these two sovereigns seemed unable to avoid. It is a tale that has ignited the imagination for centuries.
This acclaimed solo performance feels the power of Elizabeth I and the pain of Mary Queen of Scots. The fight for the crown takes you through the passions of this cutthroat time. Come join the contest. Be with these extraordinary women from child to adulthood. Was the death of one the only answer?
You the audience are the respective Queens subjects, sympathisers or possible enemies, but most of all witnesses to the turn of events of the C16th which shaped the destiny of the Throne of England. You will enter both the prison and royal court, private chambers and public processions as you journey with the cousins who called themselves ‘Sister Queens’.

JONATHAN KEMP has worked with Play on Words on numerous occasions, helping to develop the new play The Last Gaelic Chieftain for a tour of Ireland and directing Celtic Coupling at the Brook Theatre. He has also directed numerous adaptations for their famed performances at the Rochester Dickens Festival, including The Pickwick Papers, David Copperfield and Oliver Twist.
For European Arts Company he directed Animal Farm, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Lady Windermere’s Fan, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and The 39 Steps. He also directed the premiere of Joseph Conrad’s Lord Jim in London in the 1990s.
As an actor, he has worked for the BBC, the National Theatre, in the West End as well as on tour across Europe, North America and Japan. Jonathan can be seen in Steve McQueen’s feature film Blitz. He is currently the Director of Studies for the MA in Professional Acting at Drama Studio

MIRIAM COOPER trained at the Guildford School of Actingand her theatre work ranges from appearing at the Bristol Old Vic, playing the female lead opposite Ian Lavender in ‘The Ghost Train’ to the Young Vic, London, in Ibsen’s ‘Playing with Fire’.
Numerous roles have included Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth, Kate Mundy in ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’ for The Dukes Lancaster, Ingrid, in Moira Buffini’s ‘Blavatsky’s Tower’,The Tobacco Factory, Bristol, Flora in ‘A Slight Ache’, ‘Sarah’ in ‘The Lover’, Uk Tour, ‘Julia Margaret Cameron’ the 19th century photographer & ‘Mary Anning’ the fossil hunter from Lyme Regis,for Radio 4, ‘A Galway Girl’ and ‘Melody’ for Medway Fuse Festival and even‘Silvery Sally’ a female wizard for Play On Words’ UK T.I.E. tour!
She has co-written and performed in the critically acclaimed children’s shows’ at The Brook Theatre, Chatham. Her own show ‘Prostitutes Marry in May (the relationship between Qn. Eliz 1 & Mary Qn of Scots) a UK tour and Waterloo East Theatre, London, where she received a nomination in the ‘off West-End’ theatre awards for best female performance. She has toured nationally and internationally in ‘The Two Worlds of Charlie F’ originating at The Haymarket Theatre in London’s West End. Miriam was seen in ‘Witness For The Prosecution’ at County Hall on the London South Bank and also in ‘Hedda Gabler’and ‘Dear Octopus’ at the National Theatre.Miriam lives in Rochester, Kent.www.miriamcooper.co.uk
